Hi Everyone,

I guess I am writing about this combination of anti-depressant drugs because I know it works for me and I want to be able to let other people know that it does. My psychiatrist first introduced me to 35mg of Effexor and then we added the Remeron starting at 7.5mg (a 1/4 of the tablet) and then gradually increased it a month later to 15mg (a half tablet). My doctor first explained to me that most anti-depressants like wellbutrin works 50% of the time as compared to 40% of those on placebo. With the combination of Effexor and Remeron, he said that it works 70% of the time. I know from experience that Remeron is a very very sedating drug and I did have to put up with a lot of sleepiness for over a month; however, now that my body has adjusted to Remeron, I really believe that I am finally free of depression 100%, no question about it.

Please understand that I am also taking 6mg Risperdal (Risperidone) for my Schizophrenia and 1.5mg of Ativan for my anxiety. So, far I don't know of anyone who is taking all these medications at the same time. So, I am eager to hear from someone who is taking this "Combo" of Risperdal, Ativan, Remeron, and Effexor.

I want to mention that with all these medications, on top of the severe sedation in the beginning, my DR and I also noticed that I have been very apathetic. It's like I don't care to do the things I need to do or used to do like taking a shower 2 or 3 times a day, shaving once a day, flossing and brushing my teeth every day, or doing house chores every week. I found it hard to motivate myself to do all these things when I used to do them without much effort before I started on the "Combo" I'd really like to hear if someone has the same experience with this "Combo". Maybe it is just the Remeron and the Risperdal that is doing this to me, and my psychiatrist suggests that it is the case for me.

I have been diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia since 1994, and I find that Risperdal works the best for me. I am 100% free of paranoia and I am not hearing voices anymore either. This is huge for me.

I am actually weaning myself of the Ativan. I must add that the combination of Effexor and Remeron also works to get rid of my anxiety and to help me get to fall asleep at night for the most part. I do find it necessary to take a PRN (an extra dose) of Ativan to relieve some anxiety but that is only happening maybe once a week now.

I know I tried to cover a lot grounds in this posting but I am really eager to hear other people's experience. Maybe next time I'd limit myself to just the anti-depressants. Anyways, I hope that you'd find this info helpful if at all. And goodluck and take care of yourselves.

Thanks.

Andrea Yates was taking Effexor and Remeron -- better known as "rocket fuel" when she drowned her kids.

My daughter was taking the combo when she died by suicide in 2001.

Needless to say, I have nothing positive to say about the combination of the two drugs.
