Hi, I've always had blood sugar issues--mostly grouchy, weak and sometimes shakey when I'm hungry or have gone a long time without eating. Nothing that "fasting blood sugar tests" seem to find, just something that I (and most my family) notice. Now, I'm taking Seroquel at night for BP and have noticed increased issues with my blood sugar-as well as being abnormally cold most of the time.
I know seroquel has some tendency to cause Diabetes--I would welcome your insight on diabetes or blood sugar issues that you have experienced while being treated for BP.
My PDoc has never taken blood tests, or seemed concerned about my blood sugar/thirst. (I'm taking Cymbalta & Seroquel) He's more concerned about weight gain, and I don't need seroquel to make me gain weight. Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas eating are reason enought to gain weight. Oh, I love chocolate! I've tried to keep my activity level up, but the Seroquel makes me feel like I weigh an extra 50 lbs, even thought I haven't gained that much (yet anyway.)
I'm considering going to my family doctor because 1) I can get in faster and 2) she will order just about any test to rule out stuff. I think my thyroid might also be figuring into the "coldness" but neither doctor seemed to care that I was treated for low thyroid back when I was 18 and in my first depressive episode. (I'm 52 now and post-menopausal).
Let's hear what you all have experienced.
Thanks.

| I'm concerned about a similar situation. I have type II diabetes and was put on symbyax (zyprexa and prozac) and my weight increased by twenty pounds and my blood sugar levels went way up due to my uncontrollable eating. I finally went off of it and on to topamax and prozac and lost the 20 lbs but had irritable stomach so I was put on seroquel and lamictal and immediately began eating more again and felt bloated and extremely depressed and lethargic. So I decided to go back on the topamax, stay on the lamictal and prozac and deal with the occasional stomach upset. It's just not worth compromising my diabetic condition and the seroquel did nothing to help my mood. Has anyone out there had any similar experiences with this type of medication and has anyone had any positive experiences with topamax and lamictal? |
